Ever heard of the V-shape face? Did you know that some people are able to achieve a slimmer face without the risk of surgery with little to no downtime?
At DrBK we carry out facial slimming using Botulinum Toxin (‘Botox’). This procedure is becoming more and more popular to achieve a slimmer, more oval or V-shaped face.
This particular treatment is carried out routinely within dentistry to reduce conditions such as Bruxism and other TMD related issues.
Your face shape is determined by your bone structure, the amount of fat cells and your muscles. These muscles can be targeted using ‘Botox’ injections to relax the muscles and reduce them in size without affecting any significant function (such as being able to eat).
How do I know that this treatment is right for me?
If you feel the sides of your face and clench your teeth you may feel a hardening of the tissue or even a bulging in the area, this is the muscle strengthening. When these muscles have been over exercised by conditions such as bruxism or stress, like any muscle in the body, they can become larger in size. If the muscle appears quite hard and enlarged than you may be a good candidate for this treatment.
What can I expect on the day?
Before the treatment any make up will be removed and the area will be cleansed. Once this area is ready, we will then place 2–3 ‘Botox’ injections on each side of the face. The product is placed into the muscle with a fine needle.
You shouldn’t experience any discomfort. However, if you are sensitive we can use a topical anaesthetic cream, although in most cases this is not necessary.
The treatment itself will take 15 minutes and you can return to your usual activities immediately afterwards. Once completed the area will then be cleansed again and an aftercare sheet will be provided for you to take home.
When can I expect results?
You will be asked to come in 6 weeks after the treatment for a review appointment in which we will assess you and possibly provide any further treatment if required.
Patients usually start to see results within 4–6 weeks after the treatment.
What should I avoid after the procedure?
There is little to no downtime with this procedure and you would be able to continue your usual daily activities straight away. We do advise that you do not exercise for 48 hours after the procedure and refrain from drinking any alcohol on the day of treatment.
