Teeth Whitening

What is teeth whitening?
Tooth whitening is a way of enhancing your smile by lightening them using a peroxide gel, if you feel your teeth are slightly yellow in colour or stained than this is the perfect treatment for you.
Is Teeth whitening safe?
Tooth whitening is perfectly safe if carried out and advised by a Dentist. Unfortunately some beauty salons or websites offer teeth whitening. This is illegal if there is no dental professional present, as it may put your oral health at risk. To ensure you are dentally fit to proceed with whitening we will give you a thorough Dental examination to ensure that whitening your teeth is the best option for you.
What does the treatment involve?
After you have been assessed, we will then take an impression of your teeth to make your whitening trays.  Once the trays have been made we will check the fit of the trays and instruct you on how to use the bleaching gel. You can whiten at a time to suit you, at home or at work and even when you are sleeping. Each time you whiten you will apply the gel onto the tray and place the trays in your mouth. You will wear the trays for a few hours each day and each time you do this the whiter you teeth will become.
Is tooth whitening permanent?
No, tooth whitening isn’t permanent. It can last from a few months to up to three years, but this varies from person to person. Generally, the whitening effect won’t last as long if you susceptible to staining, for example if you smoke, drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth.
Will teeth whitening work on false teeth?
No, tooth whitening will not work on crowns, veneers fillings or dentures. We will be able to advise you within the consultation appointment if this applies to you.
What are the risks of teeth whitening?
No matter what treatment you use, there is a chance your gums can be sensitive to the chemicals used in teeth whitening, especially if you already have sensitive teeth. There’s also a chance of burns to the gums, if performed incorrectly, we will ensure you know how to use the tooth whitening products before you leave.
