Fillings – For replacing decayed or damaged teeth
Restorations, more commonly known as fillings, are the replacement of a decayed or damaged tooth structure.
Many materials can be used for a restoration/filling, however we use a tooth coloured material called composite, which is a strong resin material. This material is white or “tooth-coloured”, giving you a more natural-looking tooth, as opposed to traditional silver fillings (otherwise known as dental amalgams).

How does it work?
The treatment usually takes place within a single appointment.
1) First, the tooth structure will be prepared. This will involve removing any decayed or damaged part of the tooth. You will be given some local anaesthetic to ensure that you are comfortable during the procedure.
2) We will then prepare the tooth further with a special gel material and bonding agents. We will discuss with you which shade is most suitable.
3) The filling is then built up in many layers and cured/set using a strong light. Once the filling has been completed we will then polish and smooth the whole tooth. You will not notice where your tooth finishes and where the composite filling begins!
How long do fillings usually last for?
Fillings/restorations can last several years if looked after correctly. It is important to keep up with regular dental health examinations and have a thorough oral hygiene regime so that we are able to make sure that no further decay can form around the restoration.
